PACS increases efficiency of orthopedics
There should be a system which allows for proper storage and retrieval of digital images in radiology departments. PACS imaging facility connects acquisition devices to a system which can retrieve and display the images. Though it is a very expensive option but it has many benefits, like many physicians can simultaneously view the images, improves the productivity of doctors, and saves time of radiologists. The widespread use of PACS imaging has made X ray films redundant. X ray films were a more expensive option and to save on costs, x-ray film recycling was done, as it contained a binder layer and blue dye which was reused. But with PACS imaging facility, X ray machines and films are no longer used.
In the orthopedic field, PACS has been the most significant advancement. Orthopedic PACS can assist surgeons in planning and enhanced tools can help them in treating pediatric and adult patients. Traditional solutions do not integrate the work flow between radiologists and orthopedics. PACS imaging facility can improve the efficiency in the orthopedic clinic. The tools that the surgeons have at their disposal are that they can easily search the patient’s history and studies, perform a pre and post operative analysis, receive notifications about latest studies, allows fast access to displays.
